Week 5 | ... – ... | Mythology and Storytelling Back by popular demand, this camp puts kids in the driver’s seat, writing stories like the ones they love to read, full of magic, fantasy, and myth. Camp will focus on a different mythic tradition each day, including Greek and Roman myth, Norse myth, Native American myth, Egyptian Myth, and, of course, mythic animals! Young authors may choose to write one long or several short stories depending on their creative inclinations. Each day will have an accompanying arts and crafts project and students will be encouraged to illustrate their stories and share them with their peers.

Week 7 | ... – ... |  Writing Clearly for Kids
As late elementary and early middle school students are asked to make the transition from writing fairy tales to writing polished academic prose, they often struggle with how to craft a rhetorical as opposed to a descriptive sentence. This camp will help ease the transition for your child by offering straightforward methods and tools for writing in any subject. Kids will practice using logic words, making graphic organizers, and editing for clarity. They will be encouraged to ask lot of questions and get comfortable with revising. We also will have a great time making crafts and playing games. Sign your child up today to have a confident young writer in the Fall!

Week 8 | ... – ... |  Skill-building for the Short Essay
This camp will help slightly more advanced writers gain skills for polishing and revising their short essays. Students will learn how to develop the “editor” in their brain, how to use a thesaurus to find “just the right word,” and how to choose evidence that will strengthen their claims. There is no prerequisite for this camp, but it is designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students wanting to take their writing skills to the next level. Campers also will play games and do artistic, writing-themed crafts such as calligraphy, embossing, and watercolor illustrations.
