MidWinter Break Class
Writing Clearly for Kids!
February 17 - 21
Late elementary and middle school students are tasked with making the transition from writing stories to writing polished academic prose. This week-long camp will help students take their writing to the next level by offering straightforward strategies and tools for writing in any subject. Students will practice making graphic organizers for their ideas, generating logically sound claims, and editing for clarity. They will be encouraged to ask a lot of questions, get comfortable with revising, and work on mastering basic stylistic conventions. Each day students will enjoy writing exercises, games, independent work, and time to share in a growth-focused, encouraging environment.
This camp will especially benefit:
- Students who feel overwhelmed by the writing process
- Students who have a lot of ideas, but difficulty organizing them clearly
- Students seeking strategies to expand their writing with more detail and meaning
This one-week camp is designed and taught by expert writing teacher Dylan Medina, Ph.D., who received his doctorate from UW in Rhetoric and Composition in 2017.
